Matt Cotto of Auburn
5'11" - 190lbs - Free Saftey / Kick Returner
Regular Season - Week Four & Five
Life changes in a flash. We lost in week four to the Cardinals 17 to 27 then we lost to the
Dolphins in week 5 by 21 points. On top of that I sprained my elbow. The team trainner said
i'll be out for about 3 weeks. Atleast I will only miss two games since we have a bye
in week 8. Just trying to look on the bright side I guess.
It looks like we are going
back to Russell after Gilbert's dramatic fall. Gilbert no doubt will be placed as our second
string guy. He did snag us two wins but I dont believe anyone would start him right away
after a couple of losses like that.
I am going to focus on recovering the next few weeks
but once I come back I will make sure to give everyone an update. Hopefully I can win the returner
job again, wish me luck!
Regular Season - Week Three
Two in a row! Wow I think we found our starting quarterback of the future.. Dan Gilbert managed to throw a perfect last second pass to reciever Greg Jennings which won us the game. The final was 27 to 29. On the day Gunner threw 23 of 36 passes complete. I think he is the answer to our offense's prayers!
I did not have to huge of a day, just two tackles but thankfully I really didnt need to do much. As long as our offense keeps playing like they have been I don't see us missing the playoffs this year.
The Cardinals look to be a good challenge for us this week. They have two great recievers and an excellent defensive back field. The only down fall I see for them is at quarterback. I think we can capitolize on that. Catch ya later!
Regular Season - Week Two
We beat the Bears! Win number one of the season baby woo woo! Yes I am pretty dang happy about this victory. The Bears
wooped our tails last season and we finally got some pay back. The score was not much but still we got the job done. The final
score was 14 to 13.
Speaking of getting the job done how about that new quarterback? Dan Gilbert showed a lot of
potential today nailing 60% of his throws and my favorite stat of all, ZERO INTERCEPTIONS! That is something I have not seen since
my Auburn days. Really can not wait to see what this kid does next week.
As for me I picked up 5 tackles and 4 sacks. Yea I
was really annoying the Bears O-line. I guess coach found a whole because he called the saftey blitz about 5 times today. I took
out the QB on 4 of em so not a bad day at all.
I'll make sure to let you know how Gunner does sunday against the Lions. (Nick
name for Gilbert I'm using, think it will stick?)
Regular Season - Week One
Well the season didn't start as planned. First off we lost 17 to 13 to the Greenbay Packers. Secondly we lost our second string
quarterback (Colt McCoy) for the year and our starting quarterback is still questionable for week 2.
Our defense
actually played pretty good on sunday but boy is our offense hurting. I expect coach to sign a couple more QBs at some
point early this week since McCoy was just placed on the Injured reserve list.
Anyway I did not have to bad of a game.
Snagged 4 tackles and a sack. Our defense has really grown from last year. I still remember when we a loud massive points
and lost by a ton but it looks like we are to fast for that this year. Hopefully we can get this quarterback situation fixed soon
so we can start winning some games!
Preseason Update
The preseason ended on a good note with a victory over the Carolina Panthers 17 to 20. The only bad thing
that occured was in week three where once again our first round pick got injured. Luckily this time it was minor,
Russell was only out for a couple of games and should be starting in our first regular season match.
Over the past 4 weeks I picked up 7 tackles and one sack. Not much more then that. I am very excited to see
what happens these first few games of the year. Last season we lost 6 straight before picking up our first win. There
is no way that will happen again with the attitude the locker room has right now. First up is Greenbay, See you in Wisconsin!
Trainning Camp Update
Things are looking good up here in Minnesota so far. I recently met up with a few
of my new defensive team mates and a few of the offensive guys as well. From what I can see our coaching staff
was not looking for experience or overall play making ability, they were looking for speed. One of our fastest linebackers
is Thomas Howard who played for Oakland last season. He was brought in to replace E.J. Henderson who was cut over
the off-season. Also we added Fabian Washington who is a speed demon. A long side him we drafted cornerback Ty Watters,
another speedy guy.
I really can't put a number on how many wins we will get this season but I can almost promise you
we will be going to the playoffs with in the next 3 years. The majority of our starters are
young. There is only room for improvements.
On offense our key addition came from the 1st round of the draft.
We picked up quarterback Ken Russell out of North Carolina. He had a great college career and was brought in as
an insurance card for Colt McCoy. I believe he will win the starting job but only time will tell. If Colt comes out and
blows everyone away then he deserves to start. As most of you remember McCoy was knocked out for almost
half of the year and did not start over Brodie Croyle at all when he did come back healthy. I'll post a new update
after our last preseason game letting you know what went down.
